As an author and editor, Aaron has written “How to Live in Detroit Without Being a Jackass” and edited “The Detroit Neighborhood Guidebook” for Belt Publishing, an independent press focused on quality nonfiction from the Midwest. His essays have appeared in the anthologies “Voices From the Rust Belt,” “A Detroit Anthology,” “Black in the Middle” and “Sweeter Voices Still.”

A proud Detroit native, Black Midwestener, Michigan State University graduate, car enthusiast and trivia geek, Aaron has been recognized by AdWeek, Michigan Chronicle, Wayne State University’s Journalism Institute for Media Diversity, Engaging Local Government Leaders, Detroit Young Professionals and more for his contributions to various fields.

A frequent speaker, panelist and on-camera commentator, Aaron has delivered talks around the world, including Italy and Australia, about Detroit. He has consulted on various Detroit-based projects, including the 2017 feature film “Detroit,” acted as an occasional Detroit tour guide, and continues to be an ambassador and advocate for the city while living in Brooklyn. While Detroit is Aaron’s favorite subject, speaking in the third person is his least.
